Frequently asked questions

What is OCR and how does it work?

OCR (Optical Character Recognition) analyses the pixels in an image to identify letters and words, converting a visual scan into machine-readable text.

How accurate is the OCR?

For clear, high-resolution scans accuracy exceeds 98%. Blurry, skewed or low-contrast scans may produce some errors.

Can I extract text from a password-protected PDF?

Not without the password. If you own the document you can remove the password using a PDF editor first, then extract the text here.

Does it work for handwritten text?

Basic handwriting recognition is supported but accuracy is lower than for printed text. Clear, neat handwriting works best.

Will the formatting be preserved?

Paragraph breaks and basic structure are preserved. Complex layouts with tables, columns or watermarks may not convert perfectly.
