Indian telecom magnate Sunil Bharti Mittal, the chairman of Bharti Enterprises, is in early but advanced-stage talks to purchase a significant 49% stake in Haier India, the domestic arm of Chinese electronics giant Haier. According to reports, the proposed deal could be worth approximately $2 billion and is said to involve private equity firm Warburg Pincus as a possible co-investor.
If successful, this partnership would represent a major diversification for Mittal, who is globally recognized for building Bharti Airtel, one of the world’s largest telecom companies. For Haier, the deal could solidify its position in India’s fast-growing consumer electronics market, while benefiting from Mittal’s deep market expertise and network in India.

Negotiations are still underway, and no formal agreement has been finalized. Sources familiar with the matter suggest that the potential investment could help Haier ramp up its production capabilities, expand retail distribution, and localize supply chains — crucial moves amid the ongoing global push to de-risk from over-reliance on China.
Both Bharti Group and Haier have yet to release official statements, but industry experts believe this alliance, if confirmed, could reshape India's white goods market significantly.
