The Show That Redefined Indian TV
Originally aired in 2000 on Star Plus, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi was the cornerstone of the “K-soap” era and ruled TRP charts for years. With its intricate family dynamics, elaborate weddings, and dramatic twists, it became one of the longest-running and most influential shows in Indian TV history.
Starring Smriti Irani as the iconic Tulsi Virani, the show became a cultural phenomenon, reshaping Indian domestic narratives and catapulting Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms into superstardom.
What We Know About the Revival
Ekta Kapoor announced the revival at a press event in Mumbai, calling it her “most emotional project yet.” The reboot will premiere in early 2026 and is expected to air on JioCinema and a leading TV network simultaneously.
“For a generation that grew up with Tulsi, Mihir, and Baa, this will be a tribute and a reimagining. For Gen Z, it’ll be an introduction to legacy storytelling,” said Ekta.
Though Smriti Irani is unlikely to return due to her political commitments, Kapoor hinted that original cast members may have “cameo appearances”. A new cast of younger actors is expected to lead the modernized version.

Fan & Industry Reactions
The announcement has stirred excitement across generations. Millennials who once watched the show with their grandmothers are now gearing up to revisit it with their own children.
Fans flooded X (formerly Twitter) with reactions:
- “Tulsi is eternal. I can’t believe it’s coming back!”
- “I hope they keep the original title track. That was my childhood!”
TV industry insiders also believe this could spark a wave of classic serial revivals, much like Hollywood’s reboot trend.
What’s Next?
While filming is expected to begin in late 2025, the buzz is already massive. If Ekta Kapoor can strike the right balance between tradition and modern sensibilities, Kyunki may just reclaim its throne in Indian television.
