Aamir Khan Praised by Multiplex Association for Refusing OTT Deals for Sitaare Zameen Par

Championing Cinemas in a Digital Era
In a time where many filmmakers are opting for direct-to-OTT releases due to convenience and wide reach, Aamir Khan has taken a decisive stance: his next release, Sitaare Zameen Par, will premiere only in cinemas.
MAI issued a statement calling Khan’s decision “a breath of fresh air for exhibitors,” noting that theatrical releases are critical for reviving cinema footfalls post-pandemic.
“Aamir Khan has always been a pioneer in championing meaningful cinema. His decision to keep Sitaare Zameen Par exclusive to theatres is a strong show of faith in Indian cinema halls,” the association said.

About Sitaare Zameen Par
The film is a spiritual successor to his 2007 classic Taare Zameen Par, but with a sports drama twist. It reportedly follows the journey of children with special needs competing in a national-level athletic tournament, blending emotion with empowerment.
Aamir both produces and stars in the film, continuing his legacy of crafting socially relevant, heartwarming stories.
Impact on the Industry
Khan’s refusal of OTT deals—some reportedly valued at ₹150–200 crore—sends a strong message to both audiences and studios: cinemas are not dead, and premium content can still drive crowds to the big screen. The move is expected to boost multiplex confidence ahead of the film’s June 20 release.
